The University Grant Commission (UGC) has issued an updated report stating the names of the fake universities running in the country. The list reveals a total of 24 universities from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and other states.
As per the University Grant Commission Act 1956 under section 22(1), a degree is offered to the students only by an established university under Central, State or Provincial act. A university can also award a degree if it is registered under section 3 of the UGC Act.
Moreover, as per section 23 of the UGC Act, no institution cannot use the word "University" if it fails to meet the above-mentioned rules.
Prof. Rajnish Jain, secretary of UGC has also come up with an official statement:
"Students and public are informed that currently, 24 self-styled, unrecognized institutions are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act, which have been declared as fake universities and these are not empowered to confer any degree."
The names of the respective unrecognized institutions are given below:
Please note that the degree acquired from these fake universities is void. Hence, students and guardians need to verify any university on the UGC website, before getting admission. The list of registered and unrecognized institutes is always updated on the UGC platform. Be safe from these frauds!
